One of the many definitions of life is that Life is nothing but a coordinated interaction between the mind and the body. A mind without the body or a body without the mind does not make sense. So, it is essential that the life, comprising of both the body and the mind, is kept agile and healthy at all times. One way of achieving this objective is to exercise the body and the mind.
A person can lead a healthy life provided he keeps his body fit and agile, engaging himself in some sort of exercise at regular intervals and has effective control over his tongue.
Keeping the body fit and agile can be done through physical exercises. Not all exercises yield direct results. Some are meant to supplement and support the main goal of exercise. For example, let us take a boxer. He should be an expert in kicking and defending himself. That does not mean that he should only practice the art of kicking and defending. He should also do some regular exercises such as running, jogging, push-ups, pull-ups and other exercises that tone his muscles and keep them in proper condition. This is all about the physical exercise to the body.
What about the exercise to the mind?
In a person’s life, it is the mind that is responsible for the thoughts and feelings, and it is also the seat of one’s reasoning. A trained mind reflects intelligence. And intelligence is equally important than mere knowledge to have a successful life.
Have you ever thought of exercising the mind or involving in some sort of mental exercise? There are a number of ways to exercise the mind and one of the most exciting ways is playing the game of chess.
Chess is the game that challenges the mind and stimulates it. It is this quality of the game that made it so popular since the past 1500 years.
By playing the game of chess, one improves the ability to think quickly and solve problems in a creative manner. The chessboard has 64 squares and each player is provided with a set of 16 pieces that are identical but different in color. The objective of the game is to corner the opponent’s chief or King and say checkmate. It is not easy and calls for serious thinking, attention, concentration, patience, planning, decision-making and execution on the part of the player to emerge victorious in the game and say checkmate to the opponent. The probabilities and the alternatives it offers makes the game all the more interesting. The funny part is that all these activities are dependant on the moves of the opponent and as such calls for frequent alteration and reassessment. A game of chess played between two players of equal competence is the best training for the mind.
The game of chess is very easy to learn, but the interesting part is that it very difficult to practice and master the game of chess.
The Internet has changed the way the game of chess is played. Anybody having knowledge about the basic aspects of the game, even that can be learned from the Internet, can play chess online at any point of time he is free and feels the need for something refreshing, challenging and stimulating.
Another advantage of playing chess online is that one is exposed to different ways of thinking and approaching the game, as he can interact with chess players from different countries with different means of approaching the objective.
The practice of thinking, concentration and problem solving capabilities help a person approach the life with a constructive approach and thus shape his life and destiny with intelligence.
